Chapter History
On Saturday, September 23, 2006 the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia was the setting for the chartering and luncheon of the newest chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated (TLOD). Lady Peggy Lewis LeCompte, National President and Lady Dolores Humphrey Chriss, National Area II Director officiated at the induction and chartering ceremony of the Alexandria City Chapter, followed by the installation of chapter officers and public luncheon with invited guests. The Alexandria City Chapter was organized through the vision and leadership of Lady Joyce Henderson.
Seventeen ladies formed this chapter and they are: Lady Barbara R. Bellamy, Financial Secretary, Lady Carrie Johnson-Clark, Treasurer, Lady Julia Jeter Cleckley, Vice President, Lady Annette Tyree Debisette, Historian, Lady Regina Duncan, Lady Carol C. Gibson, Lady Joyce Henderson, President, Lady Pauline E. Hunter, Teen Advisor, Lady Michelle M. Jones, Recording Secretary, Lady Blanche D. Maness, Lady Lucretia M. McClenney, Parliamentarian, Lady Belinda Pinckney, Lady Velma L. Richardson, Lady Michelle D. Seaward, Sergeant-at-Arms, Lady Mildred L. Shiver, Lady Lillian Smith, Chaplain, and Lady Marjorie S. Williams.
The keynote address was delivered by Lady LeCompte, after an introduction by Lady Jacqueline Pope, National First Vice President. Lady LeCompte gave a very rousing and energizing keynote speech and stated emphatically that the “tick-tock of time tells TLOD that there is still much work to be done.” Greetings and presentations were extended from the Honorable William Euille, Mayor of Alexandria, Virginia and Mrs. Karyn Moran, wife of Virginia State Delegate Brain Moran. Guests in attendance included Top Ladies of Distinction members from chapters in New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Following lunch, a congratulatory toast was given to spouses of TLOD members known as Lords, by Mr. Quinn Pinckney, husband of Lady Belinda Pinckney. The Alexandria City Chapter adopted the them “Together Leading Opportunities for Difference” with Alexandria City as the geographical area for community service, September 2006, the chapter launched the first in a series of community service projects by partnering with the City of Alexandria. School supplies were donated to children at the Charles Houston Community Center and support was given to the local Parent Teacher Association at Jefferson Houston Elementary School in Alexandria, Virginia.
